Outsource R&D Experiments, DOE & Prototyping
Define the experiment or prototype decision and measurable deliverables before engaging a contract R&D provider.
Define a defensible scope
- DOE: specify factors, ranges, responses, constraints, replication, randomization and blocking; avoid confounding batch with treatment.
- Experiments: document controls, equipment, procedures, sample provenance and repeatability before interpreting results.
- Prototypes: state fidelity, material/process restrictions, tolerances, quantity and intended test use; a prototype is not production qualification.
- Agree intellectual property, raw data/design files, change approval, safety, negative results and stage-gate deliverables.
Provider proposal checklist
- State intended use, samples/data, method and specification where known.
- Request evidence of relevant experience and actual scope/authorization where required.
- Agree controls, acceptance, uncertainty, data ownership, exclusions, cost and provider-confirmed schedule.
- Do not ship samples until acceptance and transport instructions are confirmed. Laboratory Vortex coordinates requests, not testing or approvals.
