Plan Workplace Exposure Sampling Before Collection
Avoid collecting incompatible samples by agreeing contaminant, tasks, personal/area sampling and analytical provider acceptance first.
Define a defensible scope
- Choose analyte-specific media, sampler, flow and duration; retain pre/post flow checks and field blanks.
- Personal breathing-zone exposure, area air measurements, bulk asbestos identification and noise dosimetry are distinct scopes.
- Specify detection limits against relevant jurisdiction/averaging-period criteria; area measurements alone may not represent workers.
- Agree storage/holding time, chain of custody, analytical uncertainties and qualified interpretation.
Provider proposal checklist
- State intended use, samples/data, method and specification where known.
- Request evidence of relevant experience and actual scope/authorization where required.
- Agree controls, acceptance, uncertainty, data ownership, exclusions, cost and provider-confirmed schedule.
- Do not ship samples until acceptance and transport instructions are confirmed. Laboratory Vortex coordinates requests, not testing or approvals.
