Aerospace NDT Laboratories

Scope aerospace NDT by defect type, geometry, customer procedure and personnel authorization.

Nondestructive examination starts with the discontinuity you need to detect and the part geometry. Penetrant testing addresses surface-breaking defects on suitable nonporous materials; magnetic-particle testing requires ferromagnetic material. Ultrasonic, radiographic and eddy-current methods have different access, resolution and material limitations. A technique name alone does not specify inspection coverage or probability of detection.

Provide drawings, material and heat-treatment condition, inspection zones, surface finish, expected defect orientation and the applicable customer procedure and revision. Identify production acceptance, process qualification or in-service investigation as distinct purposes. Acceptance criteria must come from the governing specification or engineering authority, not an inspector's general opinion.

Ask about personnel certification and employer authorization under the contract's required framework, equipment calibration, reference standards and customer approval. ISO/IEC 17025 scope and any required special-process accreditation must be checked for the method and site; neither a company listing nor a general certificate establishes permission to inspect your part.

The proposal should separate technique development, reference-piece manufacture, scanning, interpretation and reporting. Require part traceability, technique settings, coverage limitations, indications and disposition against agreed criteria. Discuss export controls, witness access and radiographic safety before transfer. Laboratory Vortex coordinates independent-provider inquiries and does not certify flightworthiness.
