Textile Physical Performance
Build a test plan around fibre identification, tensile/tear/burst strength, seam performance, abrasion, pilling and dimensional change. Microscopy and FTIR can support fibre identification; blend quantification may need a separate chemical method and controls for finishes.
Footwear and apparel are not interchangeable samples: specify outsole/upper, fasteners, seams, size range, loading, care instructions and failure criteria. Ask which tests destroy specimens and how many replicates are needed.
Identify the exact ISO, ASTM or AATCC method and agreed retailer specification. Do not interpret strength alone as chemical safety, flammability compliance or certification.
Softlines cover apparel, footwear and textiles. Scope fibre composition, colourfastness, shrinkage, physical performance, flammability and restricted substances according to product use and destination market.
Provide production colourways, fabric/finish details, seams, trims, footwear components and care instructions. One fabric result cannot automatically cover all garments, colours or chemical components.
Compare laboratories by exact material/method scope and reporting limits, not a generic textile-testing claim. Retailer acceptance and voluntary certifications remain separate from individual test reports.
