GC-ECD Electron Capture Detection Testing

GC-ECD uses an electron capture detector in gas chromatography, a different mechanism from HPLC electrochemical detection. Coordinate analysis of suitable electron-capturing compounds or equipment sourcing without conflating the two.

Applicable analytes and selectivity

Electron capture detection is sensitive to certain electronegative compounds, including selected halogenated pesticides. It does not identify every compound or provide mass spectra; coelution and matrix interferences need appropriate confirmation.

Defensible method references

  • EPA SW-846 Method 8081B covers organochlorine pesticides by gas chromatography in its specified environmental context; method 8082A addresses PCBs. Confirm detector, preparation, matrix and regulatory applicability.
  • A method citation alone does not establish accreditation, reporting limits or legal acceptability. Agree quality controls, confirmation strategy and reporting requirements.
  • Traditional detector designs can contain a radioactive source; confirm jurisdiction-specific licensing, shipping, ownership and disposal requirements for the actual detector model.

Prepare the inquiry

  • State target compounds, matrix, sampling/holding requirements, requested detection limits and applicable method/programme.
  • Distinguish an analytical-service request from purchasing a GC detector; include model compatibility and regulatory restrictions for equipment sourcing.
