Where can I get an aggregate sieve analysis (ASTM C136)?
ASTM C136 determines particle size distribution of fine and coarse aggregate by sieving. Many specifications pair it with ASTM C117 (material finer than 75 µm by washing).
What the method covers
Fine and coarse aggregates for concrete, asphalt and base courses; results are compared to specification gradation bands.
Applicability caveats
- C136 alone under-reports fines in dusty materials — add C117 washing if the spec requires it.
- Soils use different methods (e.g. ASTM D6913 and hydrometer methods).
- Sample representativeness depends on field sampling (ASTM D75) and reduction (C702).
