Who can run ASTM F88 seal strength on my pouches?
ASTM F88 measures the force to separate a flexible seal, reported per unit width and technique (unsupported, 90° supported or 180°). It measures strength, not integrity — pair it with leak tests for validation.
What the method covers
Pouches, header bags and lidding seals; commonly used in process validation and after aging under ISO 11607-1/-2 programmes.
Applicability caveats
- Results depend on the grip technique — keep it consistent across studies.
- A strong seal can still leak; integrity is tested separately (e.g. F1929, F2096).
- Sample sizes should come from your statistical rationale, not a fixed number.
