Where can I test water or a material for PFAS?
Method choice depends on matrix. EPA 533 and 537.1 measure defined PFAS lists in drinking water; EPA 1633 covers wastewater, surface water, soils, biosolids and tissue. For products, total organic fluorine screening and targeted LC-MS/MS answer different questions.
What the method covers
Drinking water, non-potable water, soils, and consumer or industrial materials.
Applicability caveats
- Targeted methods measure listed analytes only — not 'all PFAS'.
- Sampling contamination is a major risk; use lab-supplied PFAS-free kits.
- Regulatory reporting may require a lab certified for the method in your state.
