Compatibility: Biological, Material & Drug-Container Evaluation

Clarify whether compatibility means biological response, material resistance or drug-container interaction before requesting tests. There is no automatic compatibility test panel.

Biological compatibility

For body-contacting medical devices, assess biological risks from the finished device, contact type/duration and existing evidence. Cytotoxicity alone is not a complete biological evaluation. Use the existing biological-evaluation and chemical-characterization pathways.

Chemical and material compatibility

Specify the polymer, metal, coating or adhesive and the fluid, concentration, temperature, stress and exposure duration. Endpoints may include swelling, cracking, mass change, mechanical function or chemical release. These engineering measurements do not themselves demonstrate patient safety.

Drug-container and combination products

Identify formulation, route of administration, container/closure, contact surface, storage and in-use conditions. Consider sorption, potency/stability, migration and relevant delivery-device function. Device chemical characterization and drug stability evidence have different objectives; have qualified specialists define the applicable programme.

Prepare a scoped RFQ

Send a concise objective first, then agree sample allocations and confidential documentation with the provider.

  • Product, materials/formulation, patient or drug contact, contact duration, intended use and target market; identify changed materials, suppliers or processes.
  • Finished configuration, sample count and lots, sterilization modality/cycles, aging and storage history; justify worst-case variants and destructive allocations.
  • Existing evaluation plan, drawings, specifications, methods/editions, previous reports and acceptance criteria; send confidential files only through the private intake.
  • Required report, quality/accreditation scope, budget range, location, shipping constraints and decision deadline; ask the provider to explain exclusions and subcontracted work.
