Scientific Imaging & Microscopy
Coordinate imaging and microscopy with providers able to prepare and examine your actual sample. Choose the technique from the scientific question, feature size and contrast needed—not magnification alone.
Methods, standards and specialized scopes
Scope pointers only—not copyrighted standards text or a claim that an edition is current. Confirm required edition, jurisdiction, product applicability and provider qualifications before work.
- Optical and fluorescence microscopy: define stains/labels, controls, spatial resolution, image acquisition and quantitative analysis strategy.
- SEM with EDS: discuss vacuum compatibility, charging/coating, beam damage and whether you need qualitative elemental screening or calibrated quantitative analysis.
- TEM: thin-section preparation and beam sensitivity can limit representative sampling; agree locations and preparation artifacts.
- Confocal imaging, micro-CT and image segmentation answer different structural questions. Confirm voxel/resolution limits, contrast and validation of quantitative image outputs.
- ASTM E3 and E407 may guide metallographic preparation/etching for appropriate metallic specimens. They are not universal biological-imaging protocols; confirm method and edition with the provider.
Typical applications
- Particle and contamination identification
- Fracture surfaces and microstructures
- Cell/tissue imaging where appropriate biosafety is available
- Non-destructive internal geometry and porosity assessment
What to include in an outsourcing brief
- Sample matrix, target features, preparation restrictions and hazard information
- Representative sampling plan, resolution and image-analysis endpoints
- Raw images, acquisition metadata, calibrated scales, interpretation and confidentiality
How to outsource this work
- Describe the objective, samples/data or site, required method and deadline.
- Laboratory Vortex reviews your inquiry and coordinates clarification with independent providers where appropriate.
- Compare proposed scope, relevant experience, method suitability, confidentiality, responsibilities and price.
- Agree terms with the provider. Laboratory Vortex does not perform the service, certify results or guarantee availability, quotes, awards or turnaround.
