Seal Strength vs Package Integrity

Compare seal separation force with defect detection before choosing a sterile-package study. A strong seal can still contain a leak; an integrity result does not establish opening strength.

ScopeWhat it addressesBoundary / RFQ input
Seal strengthForce/failure mode of a defined sealDoes not establish absence of leaks
Package integrityDefects detected by a suitable methodDoes not establish peel/opening strength
Process validationForming/sealing process capabilityNot replaced by a few passing packages

Select complementary evidence

ASTM F88/F88M addresses seal strength of flexible barrier materials. Package integrity techniques address leaks or defects in suitable materials. Define the defect, seal geometry, porosity and validated sensitivity rather than substituting a strength result for integrity.

Compare proposals by the protocol

Request fixture/support technique, specimen width, failure mode and conditioning for strength work; controls, sensitivity and defect locations for integrity work. Agree individual results, photographs and investigation of ambiguous failures. Allocate separate specimens where methods are destructive.

Prepare a scoped RFQ

Send a concise objective first, then agree sample allocations and confidential documentation with the provider.

  • Product, materials/formulation, patient or drug contact, contact duration, intended use and target market; identify changed materials, suppliers or processes.
  • Finished configuration, sample count and lots, sterilization modality/cycles, aging and storage history; justify worst-case variants and destructive allocations.
  • Existing evaluation plan, drawings, specifications, methods/editions, previous reports and acceptance criteria; send confidential files only through the private intake.
  • Required report, quality/accreditation scope, budget range, location, shipping constraints and decision deadline; ask the provider to explain exclusions and subcontracted work.
