How to Find a Laboratory for a Specific ASTM Method
If you know the ASTM method number, you are ahead of most buyers. The search is then about finding laboratories whose documented capability — and ideally accreditation scope — includes that method.
Confirm what you actually need
- The full designation with edition year, e.g. ASTM E8/E8M-24 — editions can change specimens and procedures
- Who requires it: your customer, a specification, or your own choice
- Whether accredited results are required
Search by the method number
Search the Laboratory Vortex standards pages and directory by the method number. On accreditation body directories you can often search scopes by standard number, which is the most reliable way to find accredited providers.
Brief the laboratory precisely
- State the full designation including edition
- Describe the material, product form and specimen availability
- State sample quantity, conditioning needs and reporting requirements

- The standard was revised — does the edition matter?
- Often yes. Your customer or specification usually names the edition; if not, agree the edition with the laboratory before work starts.
- What if no local laboratory offers the method?
- Most testing is shipped. Distance matters far less than capability — widen the search geographically before compromising on the method.
