Gamma Spectroscopy & Radionuclide Identification
Characterize applicable gamma-emitting radionuclides with calibrated spectrometry. Gamma measurements cannot characterize all alpha- or pure-beta-emitting nuclides.
Methods, applicability and limitations
High-level scope references only, not standards text or a claim about a current edition. Confirm product applicability, adopted edition, jurisdiction and provider authorization before ordering.
- HPGe or other detectors require geometry/matrix-appropriate efficiency calibration and background assessment.
- Counting time, mass/volume, attenuation and spectral interferences affect achievable minimum detectable activity.
- Report nuclide-specific activity, uncertainty, detection decisions and decay reference date; gamma peaks alone do not define regulatory suitability.
Sample and project requirements
No universal sample quantity is promised. Ask the receiving provider to confirm containers, minimum amount, preparation, hazards, storage, transport and acceptance before collection or shipment.
- Matrix, suspected nuclides/activity and provider acceptance
- Container geometry, mass/volume, preservation and chain of custody
- Required units, detection targets, uncertainty and decay reference date
Compare provider proposals
- Request the selected method, suitability work, controls, detection/reporting limits and stated exclusions.
- Confirm relevant experience, actual accredited or authorized scope where needed, subcontracting and quality responsibilities.
- Agree raw data, reviewed results, interpretation, confidentiality, price and a provider-confirmed schedule.
- Laboratory Vortex coordinates requests; independent providers perform the work. No capability, award, compliance or turnaround guarantee is implied.
