Home Radon Testing

Compare short- and long-term home radon measurement, qualified providers and limitations without treating radon as a general air panel. Laboratory Vortex coordinates requests to independent providers; it does not perform testing or certify homes safe.

Measure the occupied building

Radon is a radioactive gas requiring a dedicated device or measurement service. A water radionuclide panel, mold test or general VOC screen is not an indoor-radon measurement. Short-term and long-term measurements represent different periods; placement and building conditions must follow the device and applicable programme instructions.

Kit versus professional measurement

Some at-home devices are sent to a laboratory; others read continuously. Compare device quality, applicable programme recognition, deployment period and reporting units. Professional measurement can support property transactions or complex investigations, but a report is not a guarantee of future radon levels.

Results and next steps

In US guidance EPA recommends fixing homes at 4 pCi/L or higher, and considering reduction between 2 and 4 pCi/L; lower readings still carry risk. Other jurisdictions use different reference levels. Follow local advice for confirmation, mitigation and post-mitigation measurement; Laboratory Vortex does not perform mitigation or issue property safety certificates.
