Airborne Metals & VOC Exposure Testing

Select contaminant-specific personal or area sampling for workplace metals and volatile organic compounds. One generic air sample cannot measure every contaminant.

Methods, applicability and limitations

High-level scope references only, not standards text or a claim about a current edition. Confirm product applicability, adopted edition, jurisdiction and provider authorization before ordering.

  • Filter media for metal aerosols and sorbent tubes/passive samplers for vapours have different collection and recovery requirements.
  • ICP-based metal analysis and chromatographic VOC analysis require target lists, suitable digestion/desorption and validated recovery.
  • Breakthrough, humidity, sampled volume and storage can invalidate a sampling approach; consult analyte-specific OSHA/NIOSH instructions.

Sample and project requirements

No universal sample quantity is promised. Ask the receiving provider to confirm containers, minimum amount, preparation, hazards, storage, transport and acceptance before collection or shipment.

  • Target metals/VOCs, tasks, ventilation and exposure question
  • Personal/area collection, duration, media, flow and field blanks
  • Required limits, holding times, custody and jurisdiction-specific interpretation

Compare provider proposals

  • Request the selected method, suitability work, controls, detection/reporting limits and stated exclusions.
  • Confirm relevant experience, actual accredited or authorized scope where needed, subcontracting and quality responsibilities.
  • Agree raw data, reviewed results, interpretation, confidentiality, price and a provider-confirmed schedule.
  • Laboratory Vortex coordinates requests; independent providers perform the work. No capability, award, compliance or turnaround guarantee is implied.
