Microbial Identification & Contamination Investigations
Identify recovered isolates to support contamination investigations, monitoring trends or product risk assessments. Identification does not establish the source of contamination on its own.
Methods, applicability and limitations
High-level scope references only, not standards text or a claim about a current edition. Confirm product applicability, adopted edition, jurisdiction and provider authorization before ordering.
- MALDI-TOF identification depends on library coverage and isolate preparation; confirm confidence rules and handling of low-confidence matches.
- 16S rRNA sequencing for bacteria and ITS-based fungal work have different taxonomic resolution; ask how ambiguous assignments are reported.
- Culture purity, viability and containment determine acceptance. Mixed samples may need isolation before identification.
Sample and project requirements
No universal sample quantity is promised. Ask the receiving provider to confirm containers, minimum amount, preparation, hazards, storage, transport and acceptance before collection or shipment.
- Isolate origin, preliminary organism information and biosafety concerns
- Pure culture versus mixed specimen, transport medium and receiving-provider acceptance
- Taxonomic resolution needed, confidence evidence and investigation context
Compare provider proposals
- Request the selected method, suitability work, controls, detection/reporting limits and stated exclusions.
- Confirm relevant experience, actual accredited or authorized scope where needed, subcontracting and quality responsibilities.
- Agree raw data, reviewed results, interpretation, confidentiality, price and a provider-confirmed schedule.
- Laboratory Vortex coordinates requests; independent providers perform the work. No capability, award, compliance or turnaround guarantee is implied.
