Mold & Indoor Air Quality Assessment
Understand moisture inspection, targeted indoor-air analysis and mold sampling limitations before requesting an independent provider. Laboratory Vortex coordinates requests to independent providers; it does not perform testing or certify homes safe.
Inspection may matter more than sampling
EPA notes that sampling is generally unnecessary when visible mold growth is present. Finding and correcting moisture problems is central. There are no federal airborne mold limits that make a sample a universal pass/fail assessment of a home's safety.
When a targeted investigation is justified
A qualified professional can define whether spore counts, surface identification, VOC analysis or another measurement will answer a specific question. Air, surface and bulk samples have different preparation and interpretation; results depend on location, timing, weather and building operation. Microscopy and culture answer different questions and cannot diagnose health effects.
Prepare a provider brief
- State affected rooms, visible moisture, odours, recent leaks, ventilation and the purpose of the investigation.
- Agree inspection versus collection versus laboratory analysis, controls and report interpretation before purchasing tests.
- A DIY mold growth plate is screening under its own conditions, not proof of a hazardous exposure or a medical diagnosis.
- For health concerns, consult a healthcare professional; Laboratory Vortex coordinates technical inquiries, not treatment advice.
