Virology & Viral Safety Testing
Request specialist virology support for viral detection, characterization and biologics viral-safety programmes. Describe the organism, matrix and biosafety requirements before discussing samples; do not ship infectious material without the receiving provider's acceptance and transport instructions.
Services to scope with a provider
- PCR/qPCR and RT-PCR assay development or sample testing for defined viral targets, including extraction and inhibition controls.
- Adventitious-virus testing strategies for relevant cell substrates, raw materials and biological products, using an agreed panel.
- Viral clearance study sourcing for relevant biologics manufacturing steps: scaled-down model qualification, spiking strategy and reduction-factor interpretation.
- Infectivity or neutralization assays where a provider has the appropriate containment, personnel and validated study system.
Typical use cases
- Biologics process development
- Raw-material or cell-bank viral-risk assessment
- Targeted viral nucleic-acid detection
- Process-change viral clearance evaluation
Methods, standards and scope
These are general scope summaries, not standards text or a claim about the current edition. Confirm the required edition, local adoption, method suitability and the provider's specific accredited or authorized scope before ordering.
- ICH Q5A(R2) concerns viral safety evaluation of biotechnology products derived from cell lines of human or animal origin; it is not a general diagnostic-PCR standard.
- PCR detects target nucleic acid and does not by itself establish infectivity. Infectivity assays answer a different question and may require specialized containment.
- Viral clearance is process-specific. Filtration and inactivation studies need representative scaled-down models, appropriate model viruses and justified detection limits.
- Clinical diagnostic work, research assays and regulated manufacturing support have distinct authorization and quality requirements.
Prepare a useful request
- Target virus/model virus, matrix and intended use
- Containment classification, regulatory context and study stage
- Sample count, controls, shipping restrictions and required deliverables
From request to provider proposal
- Describe your samples, objective, method and timeline once.
- Laboratory Vortex reviews the request and may ask for clarification.
- Independent providers assess feasibility and propose scope, sample requirements and pricing.
- You confirm qualification, confidentiality and contract terms with the provider. Laboratory Vortex does not test samples, issue reports or guarantee quotes or turnaround.
