Adding XRF Capability to a Laboratory
Adding XRF to a materials laboratory means choosing between handheld, benchtop energy-dispersive (EDXRF) and wavelength-dispersive (WDXRF) instruments based on the elements, concentrations and accuracy required, plus sample preparation and certified reference materials.
What is this capability?
X-ray fluorescence measures elemental composition non-destructively. It is used for alloy identification, coating thickness, restricted-substance screening (e.g. RoHS elements) and composition control.

Common questions
- Is XRF enough for alloy certification?
- XRF is excellent for identification and screening, but light elements such as carbon are not measured; certification often also requires OES or combustion analysis.
