Who can test my rechargeable battery to IEC 62133?
IEC 62133-2 specifies safety requirements for portable sealed secondary lithium cells and batteries — e.g. charging, short circuit, crush and thermal abuse under defined conditions. It is a product safety standard, distinct from UN 38.3 transport tests.
What the method covers
Portable lithium cells and battery packs; market acceptance may require a certification body scheme (e.g. CB scheme), not just a test report.
Applicability caveats
- Large stationary systems follow other standards; UL 9540A evaluates fire propagation, not general safety.
- Certification and testing are different — say which you need.
- Edition requirements vary by market; confirm with your certifier.
