Hemocompatibility Testing for Blood-Contacting Devices
Devices that contact circulating blood, directly or indirectly, are evaluated for interactions with blood. ISO 10993-4 organises these into categories such as thrombosis, coagulation, platelets, haematology (including hemolysis) and complement activation. Which tests are relevant depends on the device and its contact; not every blood-contacting device needs every category tested.
